Welcome to UH and to UHSU, and for those returning, welcome back!
All these Officers are expected to work efficiently and effectively for the benefit of the Union and its members. To work as a team alongside permanent and voluntary staff. To ensure that the Union works towards its mission and aims. To this end they have to work collectively to develop the Union.
Hi Guys long time no blog. In the interval since my last blog so much has happened. We have had a successful RAG week, at which many of you may have seen the officers and students cleaning cars, auctioning students in the elehouse, and even standing in stocks being pelted with wet sponges. Having raised over £2000 for the various charities its right for the students who took part to feel a little smug… Straight off the back of that was elections and I’m happy to say that I will be your new President for 08-09 and will be leading an awesome team to boot. Since then I have visited a number of NUS events, including annual conference, which have questioned my faith in these organisations. Well that’ll do for now, with so much coming in the future all I can say is keep tuned…

You will no doubt have heard of the serious incident on campus this week, and the actions the students have taken over the universities response.
The protest this morning went extremely successfully, and the next stage for people to turn up to is the Vice-Chancellors discussion this Monday at 9.30 am in Weston Auditorium, where he will go through the universities decisions, and take questions and suggestions we have to make. (BE PREPARED!!!!)
Our respect goes out to everyone who gave us their support, either verbally or physically, and I remind you all that we are protesting to ensure the university puts in place lasting processes and security to keep the campuses safe. We appreciated everyone who helped us make it a peaceful turnout, and if you know anyone who is free this Monday, GET THEM TO THE AUDITORIUM.
Sadly I won’t be joining you, as I have to go away to put together some rather delicate wedding plans, though I will be in constant communications with the Exec and keeping abreast of everything that happens over the coming days.

With elections just around the corner, rag week on our door step, and culture week not far behind things are certainly starting to heat up in the SU. Over the past bit I have been working on a number of interesting projects, focus groups being one of the most in this regarding, providing us as they have with much needed feedback on all sorts of things from parking to ents. Similar concerns were then raised at student council and individuals mandated to deal with them. With regards to the ents, an ents committee was set up to look at the type of entertainment UHSU provides in order to insure that we are responding to student needs.
I have also been working on a few bits for the trustee board, been lobbying the university to extend its creche times to match lecture times, and begun developing the rules for an assassins society.
Well thats just a taster of whats to come, if anyone has any questions come find me in the volunteer centre or at one of this weeks roadshows… Laters

We are all back in flow of things, and judging by the lack of action, you are all either feeling the heat of impending exams, or the pressure of many courseworks. Either way, please ensure you are responsible in breaking your study patterns for a night at the font. We are here for our own development, and disasterous drinking could undo a whole heap of work you have devoted yourself to. That said, it is always good to keep from going crasy with a night away from the books, and if you want that with a hypnotist, a good dance beat, a relaxing drink, or just to watch the footy, get yourself to the font OR ele.
Anyways, I also wanted to tell you all that I got engaged this new year, so gents, the field is yours, and ladies, it was a pleasure flirting, I shall do so no more.

Well its 2008 and boy have we got some treats in store for you guys. Rag week begins on the 25th of febuary with tonnes of events from traffic light nights, ritual humiliation of the sabbatical officers, and my personal favourite an Assassins tournement. Then the 3rd of March sees the beginning of culture week again with tonnes of events. Refreshers faire for the new intake takes place in semester B, and so much much more.
In adittion to planning some of these events I have been working with the other sabbs to get these roadshows and surgeries off the ground, and finally they are here. You will likely be seeing around three times a week one or more of your sabbatical officers hosting stalls at either college lane, st albans, or dehav. We’re not trying to sell you anything, but are there to hear what you have to say so if you have an issue you want to raise, a compliment you wish to give, or just want to talk come over get a free cup of tea/coffee and check out what the SU does for you.
Well I’m off to Wales for the weekend so I’ll update you when I return, take care
